These Olympics will happen. Otherwise what rcch said.

I am afraid the LDP fossils may have, contrary to all logic, set up Ms. Hashimoto to be the face of Olympic failure.

Despite the years of corrupt and short-sighted decisions by the LDP establishment. One thing they are masters at is evading responsibility and finding scapegoats.

This is exactly what I thought, when she "took" the post. I have a hunch that she was put into the position because she is a woman, so the old guys club can say "Hey, look everyone, it's not as you said! Even a woman can be a leader" (imagine Borat talking about women here). And if things go sideways, they'll be like "we would have done that differently. Woman are not good leaders. We've told you so. Oh and Mori was right. He was a good boss".

I'm just not sure, how 90 degree bows and few 申し訳御座いません will help this time.

I'd like to be wrong, but over the 30 years in Japan, i've seen such situation way too many times.

They should announce it as soon as they can so athletes overseas and their home countries won't be wasting resources on planning to join the event only to be cancelled at the last minute. It'll save a lot of stressed nights for a lot of people who will have to cope with the Olympics being held too. Let's say that it takes roughly 6 weeks for an athlete and their supporting to be prepped for the event, then the committee should announce it at least two months before. This is just me guessing the numbers here.

Yes, rcch has everything perfectly answered.

The IOC will make the announcement, as they did last year when they announce the postponement. Bach may do it at a press conference in Lausanne with a video link to Tokyo where the Tokyo Olympic organizing committee will be on hand.

As for when, since the torch relay is scheduled to start on March 25, it has to be before then, no later than a week before.

On the other hand, I think they'll move heaven and earth to have the games. All athletes and their support staff will have to be vaccinated, as will IOC officials, media, Japanese volunteers, athletes village workers and bus drivers etc who will take the athletes to and from their bubble to the event venues. No fans will be allowed at the events.

It's ridiculous but it is doable.

I think it will follow the usual pattern; constant denials that there is any problem, then admitting there's a problem but that it can still be done. Then denials that they've discussed cancellation. Then Suga (PM) expressing doubts about it being held while Koike says cancellation is an "impossibility", then it being cancelled the next day, and Koike throwing a tantrum and suddenly threatening to lock everything down (holding up a big sign saying she'll lock everything down).

its fact that olympica in Tokyo will not happen.

at least not in 2021.

who and when will say so officially really does not matter but better earlier...today?

enough is enough and there are much more important things to care about these days.

use money for cash handouts for these in need and help to medical system.

import as much vaccines as possible-from everywhere possible-and offer voluntary vaccination for those who are interested.

We like the odds you’re giving @Reckless 8:40p JST. (You sure know to call them)

I honestly don't know and don't care- just as long as the announcement is made

Who cares, as long as it's cancelled. I'm sure if they are cancelled, Hashimoto san will take the fall, despite it was the dirty work of the Japanese IOC and Bach. Either way, the public will lose out; mostly financially through taxes.

Insurance will cover most of the future costs, whilst all the money spent on infrastructure and getting the games is sunk and accounted for, at least the costs that are known.
