Great the JP government just found someone to blame for their failure to secure the vaccine !

The EU has enacted this export transparency mechanism

Europe wants to inoculate European citizens first, not Japanese ones. I don't see anything wrong with this. Japan could have produced its own vaccine.

Not very nice on the part of EU.

With its lower infection rates, Japan should surely wait for longer.

Why can't Japan manufacture these vaccinations locally?

Good for Japan. Wait and observe.

Perhaps Japan's exceptional success in minimising infection rates means that vaccine supply is not a priority...?

"Why can't Japan manufacture these vaccinations locally?"

It will and it does

Everyone knows that Pzifer is going outsource production to Japanese companies. By the way, it japanese companies that making the vaccines in the West:

What inoculation drive? The drive to think about doing it?

14 ( +17 / -3 )

no "European citizen first".

Technically, you are right. I should have used the word "population" and not "citizen." My point still stands.

No Olympics then. Japan will be the last G7 country to re open at this rate.

I’m so greatly impressed, a vial containing water...Really? What a groundbreaking invention.

Funny how Japan is now counting on international cooperation and they still don't care about international conventions on human rights (prisoners, child kidnapping ...) or wild life (whale hunting).

Thanks for the link.

There were a lot of uncertainties regarding this before.

But now it should be crystal clear on everyones mind:

The vaccine only confers a degree of protection against certain diseases;

it does not confer immortality.

Is there any wonder why nature, if that is the accepted rationale for a pandemic that has finally brought into focus the political reasoning behind a corrosive, boarding on the sadistic need for Governments to hoard and vaccinate their own above all else?

The World Health Organization has hit the bullseye.

Humanity has lost the meaning of compassion and empathy.

I remember a lecturer once focusing, saying an existential crisis will come from Space.

The reality is here, now, instead of a universal methodology to solve this pandemic, it is all for one and isolation be the order of the day.

Japan's inoculation drive would have been late regardless of the EU vaccine curbs! The entire process in Japan is constructed in such a way that Japan Inc tries to make money in one way or another and LDP politicians also try to get their cut somehow using shadow companies or companies that are associated with LDP! It’s a shame that even during a pandemic the vaccination scheme in Japan is all about money making!

To call it an export transparency mechanism is a complete misnomer, it is and is designed to be a tool to stop companies exporting vaccines.

The EU is a sclerotic bureaucracy, incapable of reacting quickly to changing or emergency situations. On top of that they deliberately delayed while they played petty political games and tried to screw the companies on price. By the time they finally signed a contract they were well down the list from the majority of advanced countries. So as their populations started to express their justified rage at being so badly let down they started to blame everybody else and stop companies fulfilling their contracts with other countries by imposing export bans.

The EU has let slip the mask and revealed it’s true nature.

Perhaps Japan's exceptional success in minimising infection rates means that vaccine supply is not a priority...?

At least it's not so urgent for Japan thanks to much lower cases and causalities. The mortality risk and the problem of vaccination (no positive effect or side effect) may be on balance.

It's rather hypocritic that no-Olympics critics/media in Japan at the same time demand the vax procurement as quickly as possible at all cost. Again, Japan has no valid reason to rush under its short supply. Even "successful" frontrunner Germany is now considering getting Russian and Chinese products. I wonder if those critics would accept such alternatives. Perhaps pro-Bejing, Olympics backed Nikai may like it.

Germany considering Russian and Chinese vaccines to boost Covid inoculation drive

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/feb/01/germany-considering-russian-and-chinese-vaccines-to-boost-covid-inoculation-drive

When all is set for rollout, "all time critics" are still likely to complain about safety or slowness.... See what they want is just protest for its own right, not for a real, viable solution in order to move forward.

Guess who started this “ that growing nationalism over the shots”

don't recommend taking vaccines until next year.

Could this Pandemic not build a consensus through the UN and WHO, with all their political infallibility to find/present change?

If we cant have the vaccine no one will

The UK started sourcing fridges and freezers last July, in anticipation of vaccine storage and distribution.

Japan started this week, but have made no firm orders yet.

Europe is putting Europeans first, just as Japan has always put Japanese first.

Japan has taught the world well.

Why can’t we use the free market to distribute vaccines?

The free market did a better job distributing masks of adequate quality Than the Abenomask fiasco; I’d put money on the same being true of vaccines too.

Whoah im surprised you admit Europe is looking up to Japan and following its lead.

Thats a remarkable virtue, honesty.

And so is following who you think are your betters
