Great.

Was this the reason for NK's boycott of the 2020 Olympics?

N Korea has goods or services for trade with Japan?

CrashTestDummy...... Apparently much of the illegal amphetamines sold in Japan originate in North Korea.

surprise surprise

Was this the reason for NK's boycott of the 2020 Olympics?

Absolutely.

Corona was just an excuse.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

does that mean pachinko parlours are going to decrease drastically?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Was this in response to the North Koreans boycotting the Olympics?

Japan's ban has no impact at all! Japan is NEVER a key player of the Korean peninsula crisis! The U.S. and China does!

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Japan should have stopped trading with NK a long time ago since they're still abducting Japanese People

I'm sure North Korea is gutted...not.

I just looked this up. North Korea’s big exports to its trading partners are watch movements, ferroalloys, and fake hair.... hard to do without...

Several decades ago relations between the two countries briefly warmed up and in the King Size corner at my local Daiei I found an XL men's jacket for an amazingly low price, considering the quality. It bore a label that read "Made in DPR Korea." It was warm and comfortable and the stitching never gave out, but the synthetic leather trim got grubby so I eventually discarded it. I suppose with good materials and quality control, the North Koreans could give China's light industry a run for its money, if they wanted to. Apparently they don't.

Sanctions, bans, trade restrictions rarely work. In fact, its quite the opposite. Just look at the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Berlin Wall coming down, Nixon's visit to China. Although Trump's visit to Kim didn't accomplish much, the more trade and interactions you have, the more opportunities there are to ease tensions. The Iran deal accomplished that, but dark forces (Israel) had another agenda.

What? Only 2 years?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Teach you for boycotting the Olympics! No used bicycles for you!!

3 ( +4 / -1 )

North Korea. "We are NOT attending the Olympics! Japan is crazy for trying to have them during a pandemic"

Japan. "How dare you insult us?!? We are suspending trade as of NOW!"

Evidence? Seems as though NK would have declared they weren’t going to participate last year if this had actually been the reason.

an extra 2 years..... will this be more effective than the sanctions in place since 2006 and 2009 I wonder.... worth a try.... or nine. (⌒▽⌒)

Good. Can we ban trade with China, too?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Standard J-govt policy....whatever hadn't worked till now will be repeated ad nausea.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

NK just withdrew from 2020 Olympics for the next 2 years :-)

"N Korea has goods or services for trade with Japan?"

Koreans in Japan send a lot of money to the North.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

... that’ll teach them a lesson ...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Oh No! NK pulled out of the Olympics? Really?? I bet there was a big sigh of relief from Japan. As for the trade ban, well, it's not as if there is any.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

"I'm sure North Korea is gutted...not."

Japan should deport all North Koreans too.

Let us see if they will be "gutted...not".

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Good for Japan. None of this nonsense "talk diplomacy" other leaders have failed miserably at.

Unless missiles stop flying around the vicinity of Japan, and the abductees are all accounted for, the sanctions on NK will remain permanently, and no Japanese investment will be forthcoming.

No surrender to bullies. No Olympics for them either.
