Suga should focus on calming the Japanese when it comes to hosting the Olympics. If he can't even do that, then his meeting with Joe Biden will be pointless.

Sweet nothings from an incompetent leader.

nonsense!

if you want to help on the China-Taiwan problem go and talk to China and Taiwan.

13 ( +18 / -5 )

Nothing wrong with discussing Taiwan-China relations, I suppose. But if tax money is funding this trip, Suga should do what the population wants, and acquire vaccines.

Biden has a lot of much important things to do than waste time with Suga.

The whole thing is to set up a photo op for Suga to make him look statesmanlike. He isn't.

The fact Suga has so many days to waste on this trip at a time like this speaks volumes.

China has denied it is expansionist and has said it is only defending its territorial rights.

what crap!

couldn't have said it better myself!

Come the time, come the man. Thank you Mr. Suga! We can save Taiwan if they have nukes just like Israel.

Abe and Trump played golf, what will Suga and Biden do together? Gateball?

4 ( +8 / -4 )

gateball! Hilarious. Suga always doing things that are irrelevant to the citizens of Japan. I agree, how about asking Joe for some extra doses of Pfizer? Make use of yourself.

Looks like he is falling asleep.

Japan can hardly take the neutral position free of any geopolitical conflicts over Taiwan.

if you want to help on the China-Taiwan problem go and talk to China and Taiwan.

China considers Taiwan an internal issue and will decide it has no desire to include others in it's internal issues.

So you suggestion would not get off the ground. The US has pledged to protect Taiwan so who better to discuss this with? China has threatened to invade Taiwan. This should be brought up in the UN and discussed at the highest levels including the security council.

Permanent security council members need to lose their power to veto important issues. That is how issues are prolonged and fester into something even worse. Time to bring the UN into the correct century.

Why would Taiwan, the real leader of China proper trust the ccp after the lies and deceit they have done to Hong Kong.

“It is important for Japan and the United States to cooperate and use deterrence to create an environment where Taiwan and China can find a peaceful solution,”

The only peaceful solution is for China to denounce any willingness to use force to bring Taiwan under it's control. Since that's obviously not going to happen, Taiwan needs to declare it's sovereignty, join the U.N. and sign defense agreements with the U.S, and everybody else. The only way that the Chinese dicatorship will back off is if they see that the price for taking taking Taiwan will be too high.

yeah right, and Biden should focus on ending the race war in the US and making DC safe. If you have not heard the news:

US Capitol attack: Nervous US will be looking for connections to political unrest

Poor PM Suga, He has to a country in the middle of race war and is out of control .

Abe and Trump played golf,

Actually Abe fell in a pond and Trump cheated.

serious note, Japan and USA desperately need chips, semiconductors and rare metals. Guess who has them?

This is a wise move. China needs to know that Japan and Korea are on the same page as the US when it comes to cross-strait relations. Of course, China has the ability to take Taiwan by force, but being aware of the huge costs such a move will entail should deter it. Anyway, China always plays the Taiwan card when its internal position is weak, as it is now: its economics have been struck hard by the virus and its populace is deep in debt and restless.

Suga said Taiwan's peace and stability is key to the region and that Japan will cooperate with US to calm rising tensions between China and Taiwan.

He is right in the first part of the statement. But cooperating with US to calm the Strait's tension? Does US want that while instigating Taiwan against China all this while?

Suga should get his perspective and the facts right first, before making any rash remark again..

Suga’s right to partner up and show unity. China and NK have been using Biden’s startup time to probe and test the waters.

China’s rise is not inevitable and they have massive obstacles ahead internally and in terms of changes in global trade. Authoritarian regimes always fail eventually, it just takes a tip in the economics to make that happen.

Expect more localized supply chains that exclude China and domestic manufacturing in the future.

Love China and Chinese people but hate the regime and its toxic politics.

Suga aims to calm China-Taiwan tension on U.S. visit

Calm tensions by doing what exactly... nothing as usual apart from releasing statements of zero substance?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Where is the line in the sand?

If it's not Taiwan then I don't know what else it could be.

Meanwhile both countries don't recognize Taiwan as a sovereign nation.

Meanwhile both countries don't recognize Taiwan as a sovereign nation.

When did Taiwan declare itself a sovereign country not connected to mainland China?

When did Taiwan declare itself a sovereign country not connected to mainland China?

Taiwan has never declared itself as a sovereign country not connected to China therefore exactly as what I wrote, both countries, the U.S. and Japan, do not recognize Taiwan as a sovereign nation.

Suga aims to calm China-Taiwan tension

Good luck with that. Next, maybe take on gravity and eternal life?

If the US arm forces were not in Okinawa the Chinese would try to make claim to that island also.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Suga is a right wing conservative (aka Republican) and Biden is a Democrat. Japan was the only G7 country to pander to Trump, Biden will not forget or forgive this.

The US forces calling the Japan Sea the Eastern Sea was not a slip of the pen. It was the beginning of payback time.

Suga will be given his marching orders to rescind Japan's ridiculous sanctions on SK and normalize the relationship.
