The weight of wrestlers and nature of the sport results in having many injuries and health issues from the 30s.

Konishiki once told me that the toughest part of Sumo was rehabbing injuries because there is basically no off-season.

Didn’t realize he was so old. Well done on a fine career, he was a piddling little fellow when he started out.

Rules to promote to Yokozuna must be stricter. Kakuryu was not qualified.

He was qualified and he won six tournaments. Who out of all the current wrestlers (excluding Hakuho) looks like winning six tournaments?

With 6 tournament wins I think he was qualified. Besides, any stricter and there won't be any Yokozuna.

That isn’t fair. Kisenosato was not qualified for sure, but Kakuryu has been a pretty good Yokozuna. Not great like Hakuho, and he missed a lot due to injuries, but when healthy he was a pretty consistent contender.

Think you're getting your K's mixed up: You mean Kisenosato was not qualified, just a pity promotion to try and regain Sumo as part of日本人論。That worked out well. didn't it.

Since sumo grand final no reporting at all here.

Well done to terunofuji however have a comment about awarding Wakatakakage the Ginnousho for a Henka manoeuvre on the last day. Where I come from sportsmen are ineligible to receive awards for unsportsman like conduct ... see brownlow medal.... Its about time the sumo association thought about conduct like stiff arms at the tachiai and henka... you get a foul against you for grabbing the chonmage why not henka?
