@snowymountainhell @Toasted Heretic

If  Jodorowsky had made Dune, it would probably be proscribed now, as He's probably more (in)famous for his rape scene and claim of its genuineness (for publicity or no) in 'El Topo' than anything else.

Imagine how that would go down today...

Sounds great, television has never been in better hands.

Brings to mind the hideous 'Watchmen' TV show, NOT sanctioned by Alan Moore, even when asked,

Grumpy Alan famously doesn't like any adaptations or further iterations of his work.

That goes for the comic book prequels and sequels as well as the critically acclaimed, award winning series that has irked a few purists.

I'd be grumpy too, if I'd written what Alan Moore has and, thanks to greedy publishers and movie companies, received very little for the movies and TV show.

Award winning? Acclamation and awards are for success, not necessarily quality.

Taking the antihero of the novel and turning him into the accidental villain- real imagination at work there.

Kind of an anti-reboot.

When the risk assessment allows them to.

Like Disney did with 'John Carter' and 'The Lone Ranger', that nearly bankrupted them?

I could go on, but let's face it, TV is low risk compared to movies- You get what you're given.

I see that Marvel and Disney have also been jumping on the bandwagon of 'Let's just re-imagine (nearly said rip off...) other people's works, who are in no position to challenge them , money in mind and no respect to the creator(s).

Brings to mind the hideous 'Watchmen' TV show, NOT sanctioned by Alan Moore, even when asked, and the recent WTF 'The Watch': Head in hands for Terry Pratchett.

When will this real lack of imagination stop (if ever)?

Maybe situations like last weekend should make the companies think in the long term, prepare and have backup strategies.

You do realise we're talking about Japan here, don't you?

'Backup strategies'; Don't think you'll find those words in Japanese business lexicography.

Aso also referred to the debt relief program for developing nations

Can't see Japan dipping its hand in its pocket much for that, when they completely ignore the increasing poverty and debt in Japan, and continue to allow people to flounder without tangible support, even before the Covid-19 crisis hit.

@Mr Kipling

Again, you offer nothing to back up your claims; just your opinion.

And yet these test sites are all using the same PCR tests as Tokyo Metropolitan Government-designated medical institutions, but somehow you seem to think its okay to dismiss their results because they are not officially sanctioned (ten times the price) and they use a standard disclaimer?

I would imagine in a country with a general mindset like Japan, that a lot of people who test positive at these test centres but don't have serious issues, don't go on to official centres to be retested, but sweep it under the carpet for fear of shame; your idiots, as you put it so eloquently.

As for 'dubious online tests', The FDA in the US has started authorising them: A little late to the game after the UK, which has been using online testing for quite some time. Probably in a year or two the Japanese government will be doing the same. Always the bridesmaid.

Oreio..... It means exactly that.

Aren't we they expert, with no cited evidence. Medical institutions can report the cases, but it's the up to the government whether to use the figures in the official count, or not. Just saying it does count them doesn't make it so.

These are the people who ought to be paying tax - IN FULL. Track them down and sting them hard, nice tax people!

Careful what you wish for, Bertie! I seem to remember when the tax laws were updated a few years ago (Taro Aso was behind this, of all people!), they were made 10 years retrogressive and into the future, so even if you leave Japan, you will, theoretically, be liable for taxes for quite a while, and if you received any monies in the last ten years, from when the updated law was promulgated, you should have declared them.

Many countries (for example, The whole of EU and the UK, minus Cyprus) have signed joint agreements with Japan, to help us honour this law. How kind.

This affects you if you're a Japan resident with overseas assets. The best thing to do is report your Japanese My Number number to your foreign bank or brokerage, which will use it as your foreign tax ID number. That will keep the Japanese tax office happy should they look into your financial status, and off your back in terms of an audit, since they wont suspect you of hiding assets.

Apparently more and more foreigners with overseas holdings are getting audited and nailed recently.

Sorry, I have to disagree with you. Only overseas assets over 50 million yen need to be reported to the Japanese tax office. My home country is repeatedly asking me for information so they can report it to Japan, to which I have always steadfastly refused, stating the given reason. So far, so good. I would not advise giving your My number voluntarily, only if and when it becomes compulsory.

On a side note, my overseas bank is also constantly requesting me to fill out a FATCA. I'm not an overseas American (the specific target group), I've never been to America and I live in Japan, for chrissakes. Again, I steadfastly refuse, on those grounds.

Wow glad they clarified it later on in the article for a moment there I thought it was the tennis player.

But on a serious note the fool who employed the fool who sent this out should be sacked along with the other fool .

Bunch of damn fools in every govt office , everywhere !

Amen to that thought for the day.

I take it you've never been to a town or city office in Osaka; If they sacked every fool...

Still, on the plus side, there'd certainly be no need for city taxes.

Ah_soToday  05:16 pm JST

So they're reckoning it's going to take 4 shots instead of 2?

I think that there Japanese are developing their own version of the vaccination.

It will be based on Western technology, but smaller and cheaper.

Good luck holding on to that post. I said two days ago that the positively glacial pace of the vaccine roll-out could well be due to the government giving Japan pharma time to develop its own generic drug, and thus save a small amount of face, not even to mention monetary concerns.

Apparently that was off topic for a Covid-19 based article...

The 100,000 yen was paid to the head of household, for the whole household - mine came with Mr cleo's, into his bank account, within a week of sending the application. Could be you stymied the way it was supposed to work by apparently having two heads of households at the same address?

Paperwork was issued individually, in our respective names, so I wholly doubt the stymieing was at my end. Osaka city is somewhat renowned for it's みみっちい attitude towards its citizens/ denizens- reflected in its relatively high poverty and homeless ratios in Japan; nothing less could be expected.

OrieO,. I got mine within 2 weeks. and Im not Japanese. sometimes there could be problem with bank details not matched the ones you provided. Thus back n forth contact with the bank until approved.

Sorry, but no. If your bank details are wrong, you have to correct it- They can't second guess it for you. I'm aware of this because I often do transfers involving non-Japanese banks. I used exactly the same bank details that the local district hall have managed to extract city tax with in the past, and I contacted them on several occasions to query the hold up, upon which I was told my case is being looked into and no other details were required.

In Osaka the roll-out of the 100,000 yen was particularly slow- Who'd have thought; A city on the verge of bankruptcy unable to disperse funds from central government swiftly...

This is also the city with the highest mortality rate for Covid-19 in Japan, and which just spent a small fortune on a Covid-19 specific hospital with only 30 beds, which it couldn't even staff without the assistance of SDF nurses.

I seriously doubt the vaccine roll-out will be handled any better than the 特別定額給付金, whatever that is in English.

Not me.

If you are a resident here, you will get it in the same time (if you want to get vaccinated)

Actually for me, yes. It took three months for me to get the 100,000. My girlfriend, on the other hand, living at the same address- two weeks.

No, the uk cut it to 10 days and Osaka is looking to move patients to general wards after 10 days as well

As the comparatively hardest hit nation, I really wouldn't recommend using the UK as a reference for how to tackle this virus, as the UK government seem to be vying with their Japanese counterparts and leading the way in regards to how to completely underestimate and underevaluate the impact of this virus.

Osaka also has the highest Covid-19 mortality ratio in Japan, so again, not a good marker to wave in the air.

Pukey2Today  07:59 am JST

They should have done this ages ago. I wonder, any punishment for that Japanese guy who came back from the UK, ignored quarantine measures, had dinner with friends which resulted in 10 people getting the new strain.

MontyToday  09:57 am JST

@kowaicoffee

We are talking here about punishment for refuse to be hospitalized or cooperate with contact tracing efforts.

And that counts for everyone. For foreigners AND Japanese.

And according to your post...how will you deport a Japanese National Citizen?

Why are you guys always whining how bad we foreigners are treated here in Japan.

Accept it, ignore it, laugh about it...or leave!

https://english.kyodonews.net/news/2021/01/15a18e4678e2-urgent-japan-to-restrict-entry-of-all-nonresident-foreign-nationals.html

"For Japanese and resident foreigners who are allowed to enter, Yasutoshi Nishimura, minister in charge of the country's coronavirus response, said it will require them to sign a pledge upon arrival to stay in quarantine for 14 days, and violating it would result in penalties, such as disclosing the names of violators.*

In addition, foreign residents who breach the 14-day quarantine rule will have their resident status revoked and be subject to deportation, Nishimura said at a separate press conference.

He said the new measures will be taken from Thursday because of a recent case where a man who returned from Britain dined with multiple people during his 14-day self-isolation period and caused the spread of a new strain of the virus."

Yes Monty, they've decided to issue punishment for foreigners for a Japanese person's 'misdemeanour'. The article forgot to mention the person returning from Britain was Japanese, tacitly implying and misleading people to jump to the conclusion they were British or, shall we say, foreign.

She was first introduced in All Star Comics #8 (December 1941), then appeared in Sensation Comics #1 (January 1942), Six months later, she appeared in her own comic book series (summer 1942). She did not originate in a 70's TV series. As the comic book empires of DC and Marvel bring their characters to life in modern day movies this new movie on Wonder Woman will be well received by fans.

For the anti fans, nothing to see here you can move along. For the fans, look forward to a great movie, well acted and presented in a light hearted spirit of the comic books from which they get their origins.
