Not taking sides at all but perhaps if rear seat passengers in Japan wore seat belts they would not get thrown out of cars.

"Minister Wang Yi, left, and his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi bump elbows as they meet in Tokyo"
This so called new handshake is stupid. It may stop the hands from making contact but elbow to elbow "bumping" puts your faces closer together than a normal handshake putting you in the line of the other persons breath.

@wayan Ubud..... "uppies seem to be popular over here, I wonder why?"
The fact that you have a nickname for them would concern me more.

I hope that rebuild includes bringing the 1960's foundations up to the current earthquake regulations.
I have seen a lot of buildings in Japan get a "Rebuild" but in fact is just stripping it down to a skeleton and wrapping it up again in modern materials but in fact the building is still on the very old earthquake standards.

For those saying "Hit him in the leg first" Shooting a hand gun is a lot different than a rifle and that hitting a smaller target (like a leg) is actually not that easy. So as other people have mentioned you go for the largest part which is the torso.
Keep in mind if he was not heading in the direction of a cop with a knife in his hand he would still be alive.

Ok, so 10 years ago in Feb there was a major Earthquake in New Zealand and then 2 weeks later was the big one in Japan. Experts say they were not related.
2 weeks ago there was another 7.3 Earthquake in New Zealand (or off the cost of it) and now the same thing here.
But of course they are not connected in any way.

Is it always necessary for media to publish the names of people before they have been found guilty?

Happily I left NZ when the current GOVT went into power. Everybody outside of NZ thinks this woman is great..She is NOT! She has single handedly destroyed NZ's economy and giving hand outs to people the country can not afford. THEN she goes and starts the refuge quota again before housing New Zealands poor.
She has handled Covid badly and thats what you get when you are wearing the "Mother Cap" instead of the "Prime Ministers Cap"
She needs to go!

Why would there not be insurance cover for this?

I'm wondering if they weren't at the crosswalk but near, and this happened at night, what kind of clothing were they wearing. It makes alot of differences if you don't see them until its too late. Many people at night do not wear proper clothing for drivers to see them until the last minute or its too late
You,re right, I often see people walking home at night wearing their black suits on the side of roads that don't have sidewalks.

Japan should stop using the word "omoi yari yosan" for the cost sharing budget. The word is insulting to U.S. Forces in Japan.
They could always leave if they are insulted

Why not wear the clear plastic face shields that some people are wearing? That way can still see the faces and for some able to lip read

Posted in: If there is an emergency declaration covering Tokyo and the prefectures of Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa lasts a month, we estimate that consumer spending will decrease by 3.3 trillion yen and 147,000 people will lose their jobs. See in context
147,000 people losing their jobs is better than 147,000 people losing their lives.

Plus, what's wrong with using a manned helicopter to these places? Some can carry quite a load in and carry injured residents out. Something drones can't handle, yet.
A manned helicopter is a $1,000,000 investment so very limited on how many are available in times of disaster whereas drones are less expensive therefore allowing rescue services to have multiple units being able to get urgent supplies to multiple areas within minutes of disaster strike. Great idea on how to use technology in a life saving way.

Very sad to lose a young life this way but is it really the Kindergartens fault or just a sad unfortunate tragedy.

The victim should also not have their names plastered in the media either. Also in saying that the accused should not have their names published until they have been found guilty. Plenty of cases where an accused has had his/her name published and it turns out they are innocent but due to the publicity their lives are ruined.

The NZ Prime Minister is being looked upon as some kind of hero which yes she may have squashed the virus, but she has also squashed the economy as well. She could have done the same thing but kept industry alive. The unemployment figures are about to explode and she did well in hiding that until after the election.

and in mid April Tokyo is getting less than 200 cases a day, lockdown is useless

No, its not NYC.....Not YET.

I don't like either of them but you don't need to like someone to take sides. SHE is right, either shut the whole country down now for a short time or have it shut down for us with sick people for what could go on for months. Look at other countries that have done it, Singapore, just as densely populated as Japan and they went into lockdown mode, New Zealand, same size land mass as Japan and went into total lockdown for 4 weeks and by week 3 daily number growing has all but stopped. It is possible to have a complete financial freeze, no one pays rent, electricity , loans, nothing. The GOVT can give a weekly benefit to everyone for food only. The GOVt has access to unlimited loans, yes it needs to be paid back but once the economy is up and running again increase consumption tax for X number of years. A better option then losing a third of the population to an early death which would make it impossible for Japans economy to recover.

Whats the point in only 7 prefectures in a state of emergency? Either shut them all down or none. Take a look at New Zealand and Singapore. Complete shut down now for a short time is far better than complete shut down when its too late and could last for months. Give the Police the power to prosecute any public places that remain open along with any non essential workers found disobeying the rules.
