India was always a flawed democracy. During the days of Indira Gandhi journalists who did not toe the government line were jailed without trial, and now it is Twitter, Facebook and Google who have to comply with orders to shut down accounts which raise inconvenient issues. But of course, Modi's IT cell fake accounts which spread gospels of hate against minorities are given a free pass.

from her wikipedia page

She has the most Olympic appearances of any Japanese athlete except Noriaki Kasai, representing her native country in four consecutive Winter Olympics from 1984 to 1994 and in three consecutive Summer Olympics from 1988 to 1996.

seems like she would be good for the job.

Economic sanctions and canceling the Olympics its a good start.

I suggest more persuasive measures:

like banning all imports from China, and not letting them use our airspace.

what Japan could do is cut down all the birch trees and replace them with neem trees.

Pakistan is trying to plant a billion of this tree now.

A 10 billion-tree plan is restoring Pakistan’s lost forests | The Japan Times

The neem trees healing properties and medicinal uses as well as uses in culinary use and in pest control makes it a multipurpose and extremely useful tree. Cut down all the birch trees and replace them with neem trees

They really should cut down these cedar trees and export their lumber. But they should get rid of these trees.

Monty, I have a lot of friends and coworkers who take injections for their hay fever and it clears it right up. They could even function without a mask. This is of course in the BC (before corona). We must all mask up in AD (after disease) regardless.

. In my pre-pandemic life, I would leave the house by 7:15 in the morning. I wouldn’t get home until 7:30 at night, and I had an hour and a half of commuting in each direction.

Now, my 8:30 a.m.-to-5:30 p.m. day is much more scheduled and regimented, but by 6 p.m., I’m in my kitchen. I’m helping to cook. I’m hanging out with my wife.

In 18 years, I think I missed 90% of family dinners. Now I’m at 100% of them. I love it.

leave home by 6:45 come back at 6 so pretty much same him pre pandemic- unfortunately, living in Japan, WFH is not so much implemented here. I personally think it was a HUGE wasted opportunity as it would have given people and society as a whole a chance to fix the whole work culture. Not implementing gov regulation that would have facilitated more WFH was a huge mistake.

Aly Rustom, it could be a political truth, meaning that the beds really are available but forgetting to mention that even though the beds are there, there are no use because there is no one to take care of anyone who is put in them. At best, I suppose, this is a half truth.

First, the stated number of beds available for corona patients in regional areas is fictitious. While vacancies are reported in wards and in ICUs, this doesn't reflect the real situation.

very very telling about the gov is feeding us vs the actual truth..

"We're already at the point where ambulances drive around from hospital to hospital, unable to find a vacant space," says the aforementioned doctor in west Japan. "Other patients can't obtain treatment for cancer, and some towns are seeing their only hospitals go under.

"We may be headed for a complete collapse of the country's medical system."

and yet we are apparently doing sooo much better than the west.. or so we are told.

He won't. remember last year when Canada backtracked? THAT caused the delay of the olympics last year. BUT if Japan wants an event with Asia, Africa and Latin America only, go for it. Only Japan will cancel it.

Like I said, I doubt the 5 eyes or many EU countries will show up. Its going to be cancelled

That wouldn't be up to Biden. The individual sports associations and the American IOC

I think if he recommended against it with Dr Fauci by his side it would be cancelled pretty quick
