I think they should go ahead with the Olympics, but without spectators and without athletes. In all seriousness I think there is zero chance they will be cancelled now.

You are doing a commendable effort in presenting the facts... unfortunately antivaxxers only accept facts that support their narrative.

How about another option... dump it near the Senkakus.

All jokes aside... what I don't understand is why they couldn't recycle the water for cooling? Why accumulate so much contaminated water?

I get it, politicians are VIPs, they should get vaccine priority over the plebs. But why can't Suga stay in Japan and use video conferencing tools? I guess you can't enjoy the perks of a stately visit via Skype.

So he must be guilty, because his name has been published.

We don't know if this is the guy or not. Let us presume innocence until proven guilty please.

Posted in: Fukushima fish, rice sellers still struggling to overcome consumer concerns See in context

Nobuyasu Igari, a 38-year-old farmer, holds a bag of his new breed of rice, named "Fuku Warai" (Smile of fortune), in Naraha, Fukushima Prefecture.

Naraha is on the coast, a mere 17Km from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear accident. Plenty of commenters happy to eat that rice, go ahead I'm sure it is safe. See you in 10 years.

Posted in: 50 LDP lawmakers urge local members to oppose separate surnames See in context

The other archaic problem is that my wife tried to change her name in Japan but it was not possible because authorities don't accept the western alphabet, they only accept katakana for foreign surnames. Since my surname can't be written using katakana we gave up on the idea. Oh well.

There’s even a ventilation option so you can change out the air, a much-appreciated option in these hazardous times.

How clever. So this is yet another useless product that was designed in a board room filled with old men.

I am curious, with $15 billions pumped into the Olympics, can they not afford contractors? Why do they need volunteers?

Posted in: Gov't urges citizens to install virus-tracking app See in context

About my earlier comment... I don't mean to troll. I just mean that if you're worried about privacy then this app is the least of your worries.

Japan's covid tracing app is using the Apple/Google Exposure Notification API, which was designed with privacy in mind from the ground up. There is no data kept about your movements. Contact data is stored on your phone not some government server. Also remember this is "opt in".

Is everyone aware that governments can already track you via your mobile phone? They don't need this app to do it.
