Just when you thought Japan couldn’t be anymore absurd. The government does this.

If organizers cannot remove Mori, then clearly the Japanese do not understand the concept of diversity and harmony and undeserving of the games in the first place.

Wow this comments section. Taking responsibility for your actions and your words is not ‘cancel culture’. It’s called ‘accountability’.

International Community: “We need to cancel the Olympics.”
Japanese citizens: “We need to cancel the Olympics.”
Mori: “Fine. I’ll do it myself.”

vaccine will be introduced in the next 2 weeks and the death rate here is very low. Looks like Japan got it right.
General population has yet to receive even a vague window for when inoculation will begin.
13 ( +14 / -1 )
Wow, so just changing your contact tracing means you get less cases?
Less testing, less positive cases. It’s like magic! /s

Yeah that’s called being smart. Hoarding implies that doing so is unnecessary. Japanese minimum wage isn’t high enough, job market is terrible, the government refuses to do another relief fund even though people need it.
A universal basic income would help negate this but Japan and Japanese are slow to change and risk adverse this the “hoarding”.

People are reading manga at home illegally? Oh dear! How ever shall the world survive?! /s

Hey didn’t the LDP say we should punish and jail those that ignore mockdown protocols? Welcome to the Party of Leopards Eating Peoples Faces!

Suga, meanwhile, admitted Japan's medical system has been ill-prepared to deal with the surge in COVID-19 patients, acknowledging that more lives may have been saved had proper treatment been available.
There it is. At last the LDP admits it goofed off for too long with the “Go To” campaign and ended up hurting people. The LDP needs to go.
Its better late than never but tell that to the dead.

Lot of good all that ego stroking did yesterday eh Japan? So is Japan ready to take the pandemic seriously now or naw?

It’s time to step down buddy. Let the adults take it from here. Edano would be a better candidate.
4 ( +7 / -3 )
Amazing work Japan! If we cut the number of tests we cut the number of infections! It’s genius!
28 ( +34 / -6 )
Edano is right. We can’t start penalizing people for not hospitalizing when there are already not enough beds to accept COVID patients in the first place.
On top of that, he’s right that our attention should be put on containing the virus and protecting what is left.
Trying to juggle social and economic activities just as Suga is now is it working. As they say, “He who chases two hares catches neither.”

A parlor offering more than just massages? How dare they!
Anyway, how’s the Soapland downtown? Are the rates fair?

Suga said Japan would aim to start delivering the vaccine by the end of February.
My man wants to host the Olympics in July...good luck.

The taxi driver accepted a 8 - 9 hour ride, doesn’t confirm whether or not the passenger has the funds or means of paying, ignoring the fact that there are faster and cheaper ways of getting to Tottori instead of a taxi?
Both of these individuals are frauds and they deserve each other.
15 ( +19 / -4 )
Talk is cheap Suga, opposition party leaders are right. The LDP is now pushing into human rights violations and gross abuse of power.
At this point the best option is to focus efforts on getting vaccines out. That’s the only hope for Japan and their precious Olympic Games, but even that is a stretch.

Shouldn’t have spent the last several months dicking around with the Go To campaign then.

“There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.”
Oh well, I’m sure he’s learned his lesson this time, eh J cops?

SOE in Japan in general doesn't mean squat?
Exactly. Having a SOE in Japan is fine, but with one that so poorly made and defined, how can anything get done? Osaka was calling it 'Red Stage' for over a month. Now it is a SOE. It made little difference.
Slapping a label on this whole thing does what exactly? Even the government and Suga said that this whole thing largely relies on citizens on an individual level to cooperate. That's been the case for nearly a year now and it brought us here, to this point.
The government can call it whatever they like but it won't make a bit of difference socially, medically or economically if it acts as nothing more than a placebo.

The Foreign Ministry mispelled the word 'sex slave' again. Japan may have compensated South Korea but stop sugar coating it to make it seem less horrible. Those poor women were sex slaves. Full stop.

Mori you crook, your over-inflated salary would better serve the people of Japan than lining your pockets!
8 ( +9 / -1 )
Is 970 a lot?
Depends on the context.
6 ( +7 / -1 )
I’m not necessarily against having an SOE for Osaka. We are already in “Red Stage” so what does that really change for us? It seems like a placebo.
Are people not able to conduct themselves in a safe and sane manner unless it’s officially labeled as a SOE?
3 ( +4 / -1 )
This is out of control. Stop testing already!
You do understand that not testing for a COVID-19 case doesn’t actually mean it goes away right?
It just means you are more ignorant to just how widespread and sick people are.

Man I do love a good Onion article. Wait...this isn’t The Onion.
6 ( +7 / -1 )
Oh dear. If only the government had say, a 6 month window to prepare in the event that the pandemic continues and even worsens. Shame. There must not have been enough time with the "Go To" campaigns that the government must have no choice but to do this now.
