Posted in: Should you add wasabi to your soy sauce at a sushi restaurant? See in context

When I first washed up on these isles in the early 90s people were much more sensitive to wasabi & shoyu & how they were supposed to be used, I would say most kept these separate when consuming.

Then as time went by & Japans economy sank we ended up with slews of super cheap crappy tasting kaiten sushi & that & cheap izakaya are where the mixing kicked into high gear & now almost nobody bats a eye when people mix the two.

Get a cat or a dog, for crying out loud

JL, you do realise that dogs as pets create many many many more problems that snakes, bites & deaths caused by dogs is vastly more than all herps combined.

That said I love herps, dogs(my best friend Trigger passed in feb this year 19yrs old), & cats(have 3). As for herps I have many in my yard(2 of which are poisonous, mamushi & yamakagashi) & the few the cats bring in that I catch release back.

Pet owners need to be responsible, the retic owner appears to have made a couple mistakes which they need to be held responsible for

Ikee san would be wise to NOT step into the conversation of whether the games should happen or not, if she continues posting about it she will risk backlash that up to now she doesnt deserve.

"I know the pressure that you are under," Coe said to Hashimoto. "But mercifully in London, we didn't have the added complexity of worrying about protocols around a pandemic. So you have our sympathy in that extra tier of complexity."

An extra tier of "complexity" you say coe......what a pompous SOB!

Regular flights departing from or arriving at Tokyo's Haneda airport will not be subject to the restriction, according to the ministry.

The above means that the restrictions will have little meaning as most aircraft that would be in the vicinities would be landing & taking off from HND!!!

What this article illustrates what I have suspected since forever & that is that the US still has a massive grip on Japan IF it chooses to use it.

I believe this is a all from the end of WWII, my bet is there was plenty of secret deals cut & that the US agreed to keep secret a lot of info it has on Japan & things that were done during WWII that would how shall we say it, make Japan look rather bad if it came to light........just a theory, bet I am right on some of it!

Posted in: Japan's child population hits record low after 40 years of decline See in context

This article outlines the dire straights that Japan is in & still we get many trotting out the oversimplified, ""well a lower population will be better...."""

How many times do I have to say LOOK at Japan's population pyramid, the base is narrowing quickly! It is IMPORTANT HOW a population is declining, not JUST that it is declining. And as the article above states:

Children aged up to 2 accounted for 2.65 million, relatively lower than other age brackets and reflecting a decline in the number of births, the ministry said.

And this number is dropping FAST! With no immigration the population is going to resemble a pole which will disappear!

Japan's population may be declining now but at this pace it WILL PLUMMET even if the birthrate were to dramatically increase the overall population will still decline!

See Rainyday's post above about why the decline wont necessarily make for better living here

The degree of incompetence here is out of the stratosphere!!!

Posted in: Strong wind gusts damage 92 buildings in central Japan See in context

Folks take a LOOK at the bottom 2 buildings, these are what I have described as SHACKS for decades, cheaply made CRAP!

And the shack in the middle with a heavy roof, what could go wrong, well simple, look at the picture!

And dont get me started about the MILLIONS of akiya, many of which are cheap shacks like the 2 pictured above, and over time earthquakes & typhoons make these VERY DANGEROUS.

Pay attention to pictures from typhoons & you will soon notice many of these cheaply made, often dilapidated structures are the ones blown apart, same with nasty signage etc etc etc

Posted in: 1st nationwide survey sheds light on young carers in Japan See in context

She now runs a company sending caregivers to the disabled out of gratitude toward her teachers, social welfare systems, and her mother's support for her. "I believe it is necessary to promote social welfare that doesn't rely on nursing care by family members in Japan," she said.

Wow, talk about turning lemons into lemonade!!

CLEARLY a child in her situation needs help assistance in addition to what her mother received, that Japan hasnt sorted something like this out many decades ago shows how clueless & cold( and YES Japanese can be ETXREMELY cold to the fellow Japanese, very unbecoming & rather common sadly) this society can be.

I dont think I could show gratitude to the social welfare systems( to some individual staff yes, but not overall).

Extremely well done on her part for getting through this, I dont think words could adequately describe what she has accomplished, makes me both sad & happy at the same time.

The center in Tokyo's Otemachi district is expected to be used by some 900,000 people aged 65 or older residing in the capital and neighboring Kanagawa, Chiba and Saitama prefectures. It will launch on May 24 and be staffed by Self-Defense Forces doctors and nurses, according to the government.

What an incredibly STUPID IDEA!!! The govt expect all the old folks to COME TO the vaccines it MUST be the other way round.....DOH!!! Add in all the daft admin the old folks will have to do & most are going to be scratching their heads & have no idea what they are to do!

My MIL in Nara go a post card about the vaccine & she is freaking out because it has a QR Code on it & she doesnt have a smartphone or computer....

The govt should be able to do this much easier for everyone but not they have to make everything stupidly complex for no real reasons........

Posted in: Gov't advisers warn Japan's birth rate falling at more rapid pace this year See in context

To the people that say a decline in population is good, I agree, BUT, it depends on HOW that decline is happening & they way Japan is declining now its headed towards extinction!

Take a look at Japans population pyramid, note how the very bottom how narrow it is becoming, over time those are NOT going to widen at all. Japan is going to reach a point if it hasnt already where even if the birthrate gets to 2 the population will STILL DECLINE!!!

Add in the super top heavy elderly population & the COSTS they will consume IS & will increase massively in coming decades, meanwhile life for young people, families continues to get WORSE & WORSE over time.

Quality of life here only exists for a select few. As one who lives in the inaka which I love I also see it continue to ROT at an insane rate.

The future for Japan is sadly dim, but its mostly of their own making & fools in the LDP will NEVER do anything to really change anything. Japanese can be a fatal bunch & I dont see them getting off the Highway to HELL!

This is such a massive case of GROSS incompetence it is just out of this world.

CLEARLY the govt has been HIDING the fact about how many vaccines they have been sitting on, this is way way off the charts, people should be jailed for this kind of thing!
