The whole thing is illegitimate. The constitution says only ...

Another constitutional expert! Where were you for the past four years when Trump was using the constitution as toilet paper to wipe his ass! This impeachment is only about Trumps role in sending the mob on his behalf to do violence and overthrow the legitimate election results! He surely did so! Now he should face the consequences of his traitorous actions...but he won’t because of the majority of GOP senators who will turn a blind eye!

By the way just to remind you that BIDEN WON AND TRUMP LOST... no amount of your whining will change this fact!

What the heck were they doing until now? They had so much time to prepare adequate number of syringes and they failed to even do this. Japan’s vaccination procedure would definitely be ranked at the bottom in comparison to other developed countries...come to think of it, it might even be worst than some developing countries!

Is this protest ( held in Tokyo ) going to achieve anything positive to change the military coup status ( in Myanmar)? I don’t think so. The only thing it will achieve is more corona virus infections!

Posted in: EU vaccine curbs may delay Japan's inoculation drive See in context

Japan's inoculation drive would have been late regardless of the EU vaccine curbs! The entire process in Japan is constructed in such a way that Japan Inc tries to make money in one way or another and LDP politicians also try to get their cut somehow using shadow companies or companies that are associated with LDP! It’s a shame that even during a pandemic the vaccination scheme in Japan is all about money making!

Trains remained incredibly packed, offices and restaurants alike as remote working is nearly non existent, no capacity limit in restaurants or retail whatsoever as these always fill to capacity, and social distancing is still a poor concept after one year of pandemic.

Those are not facts!!!

Yes they are facts! Do you Elvis ever leave your house and see what Tokyo is like during the SOE... everything mentioned in the other comment by AG are spot on! If you had been to Tokyo last month then you would have known the reality is exactly as AG mentioned! This state of emergency was a farce! The entire month under the SOE was like any other ordinary day! It wouldn’t have made any difference if the SOE wasn’t implemented!

Posted in: Cabinet OKs bills to penalize people who do not comply with antivirus measures See in context

This is crazy. Why someone would have to be hospitalized if they have no to little symptoms? Being positive does not mean being sick. For a lot of people, being forced to be hospitalized may put them in a difficult situation with their job and employer since they can't work even if they are fine.

The most absurd comment that I’ve read recently! This is precisely why we are having trouble eliminating corona virus in Japan. Positive test means that you are infected and will transmit this to others! Being positive doesn’t necessarily mean for you to focus on your own health only! You may be fine to work but the moment you go to the office or any public place, you as an infected person are infecting others. They might get seriously ill and even die! Don’t be so selfish and inconsiderate of the people around you!

This topic ( law by the Government ) as a whole is a tough one. On one side we have authorization being put in force like China ( arguably) and North Korea. While on the other side it seems acceptable enough as positive people are infectious and spread the virus to others even if they themselves show no symptoms. If I’m positive and spread it to someone who dies then I’ll never be able to live with myself! But this is just the way I was brought up. As seen from the comment that I’ve highlighted, some people are just selfish and inconsiderate that they still want to go to work and spread the virus to others!

This is a bitter pill to swallow but the Japanese Government can always say: People especially foreigners who don’t like the laws implemented by the Japanese Government are free to leave Japan!

Posted in: Tokyo reports 1,274 new coronavirus cases; nationwide tally 5,521 See in context

Back to the Japanese way... to keep the numbers down do limited number of test! 1274 infected from 2670... almost 50%. How Japan gets away with this is bizarre. Imagine if China or The US did limited testing like this, the global community and international leaders would have bashed the administrations and relevant authorities. But it’s Japan so everyone keeps quiet...such a shame! This paints a false picture to many people who become too relaxed / careless and this leads to the virus spreading even further with more deaths which could have all been avoided! Test more to isolate the infected so that the spread can be minimized and eventually eliminated!

Posted in: Kono denies reports of mass vaccine roll-out for general public in May See in context

The Japanese Government seems to be deliberately delaying the roll out of vaccinations for the general public because the LDP cronies and their associates want to make a few bucks out of the licensing! These old politicians will quickly get vaccinated months ahead of the general population to be safe themselves. The general public will suffer from the greed of these pathetic politicians! If they want to hold the Olympics this summer than vaccinations should be completed by then!

Posted in: Student not covering nose with mask disqualified from taking university exams See in context

Nobody has heard this kid's defence (the article explicitly states that no reason was given for the refusal) but unilaterally condemn him or her. No wonder Trump's call for action on the election gained such traction.

He / she didn’t have a reason...just tried to be arrogant! The written notice prior to the examination already stated wearing of mask correctly as compulsory. And he / she was given seven warnings yet didn’t follow. If he / she didn’t want to wear the mask then could have requested for the other room in advance. It’s evidently clear that this student is just an attitude problem and troublemaker. His / her teachers also might have been terrified and tied of this students failure in the classroom to follow instructions. We all have met problematic children during our schooling days who constantly broke rules...no denying that!!!

Don’t bring President Trump into this...he lost the election fair and square! Deal with the fact! Trump lost and Biden won and the world knows it! Let go of this never ending craziness about Trump!

If Japan approves the vaccine quickly and mass vaccination starts by March then definitely the virus can be brought under control. But with Japanese Pharmaceuticals companies trying to make a few bucks out of all this a quick approval for vaccine seems highly unlikely! It’s all about money making for Japan Government and Japan Inc.

I think Japan is doing fantastic.

Tell that to the 4304 people who died or their family members! How about telling that to the front line medical staff in Japan who are struggling and suffering physically as well as mentally dealing with corona virus! You should have some respect for people who went through / are going through the hardship of this pandemic rather than praising the bureaucrats of Japan with such statements!

Watch out for the reported cases from next week Tuesday to Thursday! People who take corona virus lightly always seem to start celebrating by reflecting on the low counts on Sunday to Monday! Yes, the number is lower than yesterday but it’s the highest ever for a Sunday! My close friend was a person who used to downplay corona virus saying it’s a hoax and will disappear itself ( Strong Trumptard repeating what Trump said in February 2020 ) until he got infected and so did his parents. He was on the ventilator and recovered but unfortunately his mother died and now he has changed his perception about corona virus! It’s only when people go through the dangers, sadness and hardship that corona virus brings people become serious about it!

Posted in: Popular Japanese pub chain shuts 20% of its locations due to virus See in context

So if the virus had originated in Japan would the Japanese Government compensate people worldwide? If it originated in the US would they have done the same? Stop all this nonsense about giving China the bill because the fact is that these types of virus can originate anywhere unexpectedly. Accidents and disasters are part of life. Did Japan compensate anyone for the Fukushima nuclear disaster and the amount of radiation they dumped into the ocean? More of such virus will originate in the near future and ground zero could be anywhere globally. Bottom line is that the virus spread globally because of negligence of the world leaders who didn’t act sooner by closing borders completely at an early stage and having proper lockdowns. New Zealand and other smaller Pacific islands managed to eliminate or even avoid corona infection because of their proactive leaders!

Posted in: Saizeriya president calls requests not to eat out for lunch ‘nonsense’ See in context

If Japan had just done a hard lockdown ( a proper one, not the Japan style ) just for a month earlier then everything would have become normal by now! The hard lockdown should have closed everything ( including schools, offices, restaurants, bars, malls, movie cinemas but exclude supermarkets and hospitals ) and each citizen given financial handouts of 300,000yen. But this half approach of declaring a state of emergency then keeping life as normal does not benefit anyone. You can’t gave it both ways! The economy is collapsing, people are suffering financially and corona virus keeps spreading! The 60,000yen per day handout to restaurants are kept by the restaurant and workers don’t see any part of it! They are only paid for the working hours and not paid if restaurants are closed. Financial handout to every citizen is important and a necessity if the Government declared a state of emergency and people can’t work! Bottom line is that you either do something properly and don’t do it all all because you’ll make a mess if not done properly!

The only crime that Ghosn committed was trusting Japan Inc and loving Nissan! He should have left Nissan for better offers from other countries. The Japanese executives were super jealous of him and conspired with the Japanese prosecutors to build up a fake case against him! The independent commission from the UN has also said so. Other foreign CEOs / Executives need to be extra careful when accepting jobs with Japan Inc.

Government just supports big corporations ( Especially those with ties to the LDP ) and local mom and pop stores suffer! Nothing in terms of financial assistance given to the common man out there! Other countries have given stimulus ( financial handouts ) to citizens multiple times but in Japan just once 100,000yen which took 3 months to be handed out! It’s time to give another handout to all citizens ASAP!!!

Posted in: Tokyo reports 1,502 new coronavirus cases; nationwide tally 6,587 See in context

Regardless of whether you like Japans way of handling this crisis or not, it’s damn clear that they have done poorly as far as the number of tests go! That’s precisely the reason they can’t bring the number of infections down. People who are infected don’t get access to free and easily available tests and keep going out ( to work, supermarkets, convenience store, restaurants, coffee shops all while using crowded trains ). These people keep spreading the infection to others without knowledge ( arguably some deliberately )!

Posted in: Suga announces new measures to stem virus surge, including penalties, review of medical system See in context

Why are people here so worried about the Chinese New Year and other visitors... it’s already way to late to do so because the virus has spread in full force locally within Japan. Closing the borders now is just for a show. Locally transmissions are 99%. Restaurants closure at 8pm is just pure stupidity and will in no way prevent the spread. Infected people keep going out to supermarkets, restaurants, convenience store, malls, bookshops, coffee shops and keep using the jam packed trains! So the only solution now is wait for the vaccine or have a serious proper lockdown like New Zealand and Australia did before. Personally I don’t favor the lockdown because with the high numbers now it’s already way to late! Japan authorities dropped the ball big time... its only going to get worse with 10,000+ infections on a daily basis even with limited testing that Japan does! Universities need to be closed ASAP because these uni students are the super spreaders!

20’s always contributes to the highest number for a reason. Just look at the behavior of some University students ( in Takadanobaba / Shinjuku ) and you’ll know exactly why. These University students are super spreaders yet the Government old farce can’t get it into their thick brains and do something about it! As the Japan times highlights that the next State of Emergency will lack tooth as there seems to be nothing concrete in the way it will be implemented! So

This type of state of emergency makes no sense...another farce from the old men in Government! It’s better not to declare the SOE since what they plan to do is basically ineffective! Pathetic group of politicians who are just more concerned of pleasing the Trump supporters thinking that they make up 70million when in reality they probably just make up less than 10 million. More than 60 million voted for the Republican Party rather than Trump! Americans are dying from the corona virus and suffering from job losses and financial hardship and these garbage politicians have their priorities on the wrong thing!

Posted in: Gov't to ask experts whether to declare state of emergency again See in context

@tooheysnew... I hear you man! So many people are suffering from lack of money due to shut downs! No assistance given by Government as well... it’s just painful! The least the Government can do is provide direct financial payouts to every citizen if they declare a state of emergency and that ¥100,000 isn’t going to cut it! It needs to be more than ¥300,000 at least if the shutdown is for a month! Lockdowns won’t solve the problem! All that needs to be done is widespread testing to identify the infected people and isolating them ( self isolation or quarantine centers ) so that they don’t spread the infection inadvertently to others. Didn’t the government promise 60,000 test a day?
