If a president can undone what the previous president did, it makes it that every election matters, a string of elections resulting in a president like "the former guy" is gonna destroy us all.

"hard to sell" sounds nicer than "I don't want people to have decent living standard, who would clean the trash otherwise ?!"

Most people in Japan oppose the government, yet they keep electing the same party to power, do you still wonder why the government never care ?

Posted in: Japan to suspend Go To Travel campaign for whole country from Dec 28-Jan 11 See in context

Had to stay at a hotel for work a few weeks ago. They do take a lot of precautions, yet, at service area of highway, young people laughing, talking out loud, while having lunches without masks on.

Sure, pausing of goto travel is preventative, it will hit a lot of hotels, but it will not make people stay home, especially those who care little about the virus, they'll still go out and spread it.

This is why we don't have genuine kind services in Japan, only pretrained robotic behaviors are allowed.

Posted in: A worried Asia wonders: What will Joe Biden do? See in context

China loves Biden, it will be back to business as Japan won't see anything solved, senkakus, kidnapping, South China Sea. I don't like Trump for all things except for his China stance. Too bad our outdated political system doesn't allow us to elect a person to be in charged on certain issues.

LOL, basically what SK and it's government been doing for years, we pay, they steal it for themselves, when run out, rile-up the people "the Japanese must pay!". Very predictable, as predictable as them asking more money sometimes later in the future.

Posted in: Again, no female contenders in Japan's leadership race See in context

I don't support any of these geezers, none has the balls to condemn China, especially Ishiba, "we must be the mediator of US - China relationship", like WHAT ? LOL!! Though I like it when the questioneers ask about "female problem", then he replied "Why aren't there female questioneers ? What did you do ?".

None of these three are any good.

Posted in: Stock markets are booming in many countries despite millions of people having lost their jobs and the coronavirus pushing economies deeper into recession. Why is there such a disconnect between stock markets and the real economy? See in context

The last crashed made a lot of stories about ordinary people becoming rich, retiring early because they "hold" and continued buying when the market was low. Now, more individuals are doing exactly that, with the help of simple apps like Robinhood and the Fed's giant pump.

Posted in: Why is anti-Japanese sentiment remaining from the World War II era almost non-existent in countries like Taiwan, the Philippines and Indonesia, unlike in China and South Korea? See in context

I'm a Chinese decent who were born and grew up in Indonesia. Can't say much about the "real" China except from things I learned from my parents and grandparents, we're a revenge-loving bunch, fillial pity and what not, ancestors' wrong doings must be paid by children, grand-children, and so on. Grand-parents especially made sure we don't forget Japanese wrong doings.

As for Indonesia, we just hate the Chinese more than the Japanese. Chinese has been given special preferential treatment by the Dutch way before WW2. Chinese ethnics were and are in general wealthier than natives, and since they're more or less present in people's daily lives, their wealth has been a source of envy and division (Maybe similar to Jews in Germany before WW2 ?).

I find it funny that after 2 weeks of daily record cases, people still think "nah, it's not gonna happen to me, plus the government doesn't declare emergency, let's keep going out to places where infection risks are high".

Posted in: The postponed Tokyo Olympics are scheduled to start one year from this week. Do you think they will be held or canceled? See in context

The US infection rate shows no sign of slowing down and the people show no sign of care. If the Olympic continues, would Japan discriminate against the US ? The politics involved will be a nightmare, might as well cancel it.
