Nearly 10 years to the day since the Christchurch earthquake, one that preceded the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake. Stay safe. Always be ready to GAG: Grab and Go.

There's every reason to believe we are now entering a more seismic active epoch of the this planet's passing through time, that we've established ourselves as a species through relative calm and that normal service -- in terms of the planet's history -- is returning.

@Zichi you’re well off there. Electrification systems used by the JR Group are 1,500 V DC and 20 kV AC for conventional lines, and 25 kV AC for Shinkansen. Electrification with 600 V DC and 750 V DC are also seen in private lines. Frequency of AC power supply is 50 Hz in eastern Japan and 60 Hz in western Japan.

@Sandybeach: Birds tend not be grounded. So the electricity stays “in" the wire,

It's not 1812, when the British did a proper job on The Capitol, so, the terrorists will be controlled and sent packing. Questions must be asked of why, intentionally by the look of it, security was so unprepared, so lack when it was obvious this was going to come to the fore. Yes, here we go again with a Democrat win. A win for the many, not the few. A win for a future based in truth, the law and improving equality. The GOP are geriatric, odd, poisonous. They’ve eaten themselves through Trumpism.

What a lot of people don’t realise is that at during the 30s and 40s the US really wasn’t interested in war, truly, the majority were very much into being isolationist, they’d learnt what the Old World was during WWI. There was a saying along the lines of, "England will fight until Americas’s last man”. Then Pearl Harbour. That galvanised the nation and rightly saw a massive effort to fight back, the Doolittle raid (Aptly named) was the start of it. The Pacific theater was America’s war for sure, fought on a shoestring at first as Churchill had convinced FDR that Hitler needed sorting out first, he was right, but that put the Pacific forces in extra danger, no equipment, no support, BUT the US got on with it. An amazing sacrifice really, not comparable to Russia’s in terms of deaths, but certainly in effort, determination and focus.

As the misanthrope steals money from the fan base to the tune of 200 million US dollars (That’s how much the devotees have given) Nero comes to mind. Once it strikes noon and President Biden comes into office, the orange now -- if not arrested -- will start to run Magaistan from Florida against the elected govt in Washington DC. It needs to be stopped. The very fabric of the Constitution is being torn.

This is such a pivotal moment, a point in time that may well just save the planet’s ecosystem from catastrophe. Joe Biden has a vision to transition from a carbon economy, to rejoin the international community, and address the existential threat to life as it is known on Earth, where the Amazon Rainforest is burning, where there is no ice forming in the Artic, where Siberia is melting and where animals such as the African elephant, the Polar bear, the rhino species -- that exist no where else in the Universe -- are threatened with extinction. Hope. It’s always a light in the dark. Always a beacon to steer by.

Bye Donald Trump. The craziest four years of my lifetime. Here’s to the other populists, wannabe bully boys and general “mini-me" days being drawn down to zero.

Posted in: Trump backers converge on vote centers in Michigan, Arizona See in context

These "long counts" are another kind of voter suppression, the product of rules imposed in those states by Republican-controlled legislatures that in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania allowed for no early processing of the mail-in vote – despite the pandemic – and in Michigan allowed for only one day of early processing. Everyone saw this problem coming. They also saw how Trump would attempt to take advantage of the uncertainty by stealing the election, which he is, although the effort, as historically dangerous and destructive as it is, does not look particularly brilliant.

Elections officials from both parties in the states in question pleaded with the Republican legislatures for more time to process votes early, as they do in other states with Republican-controlled legislatures such as Ohio, Florida and yes, Arizona, where the race happens to have been truly close. BUT Georgia is on my mind, a real chance of getting those 2 Senate seats. Beautiful.
