The only way out of this is by the government ordering the army to help with vaccinations
While it might be a good idea, I think the biggest problem is the lack of vaccines that Japan has to administer. Until they can get a large amount, and that looks less and less likely with the problems now with the J&J vaccines, as well as the Astra Zeneca vaccine. There is just not enough to be given to people.
On a side note, I was surprised to see Dr. Fauci saying that even now that he has the vaccine he won't eat in a restaurant, go to a movie, or get onto an airplane. Not sure if that means forever, or until more people get vaccinated. But I thought the point of the vaccine was to allow us to return to some sort of normality.

You don’t pay the whole tuition up front. There are loans and all kinds of financial aid.
Not sure what you are talking about, when you attend university you pay up front, unless you borrow and then have to repay a bank. Not sure how much financial aid there is for foreign students.
All I am saying is for a young man whose family had to borrow money for him to attend university in Japan, it seems strange that suddenly he is flush to attend one of the more expensive law schools in the US.

I love the way they always say that Japan has started to vaccinate 35 million people over the age of 65, making it sound like it will be over and done with in a few days. When in fact we know that even that group, that I still don't understand why they are being prioritized, will take until far into the summer or perhaps fall months! As for the rest of us, I doubt if we will receive anything by Christmas.

What I would like to know is who is bank rolling Mr. Komuro? Every time we see him in the US he has bodyguards. Last time I checked Fordham law school is about $65,000 per year, and Mr. Komuro was a lowly para-legal. Now he is resolved to pay back an extra Y4 million! Just wondering. I think this is why the family is wary of this guy and what are his motives.

Interesting that a temporary staffer is able to get two vaccines, but still so many frontline doctors and nurses have not been given them. And as many people stated, the vaccine is not 100% bullet proof, but gives you some level of protection, and even if you get the virus, the effects are far less serious.
Maybe Mr. Suga shouldn't be traveling to the US so soon after his second shot, he will not have waited the specified two weeks after the second shot.

If the government is so worried about the rising cases, why would they even wait until Monday for the new measures to take effect, start them immediately. Oh but that was on Friday, and they didn't want to lose a good weekend of business did they, showing they don't care one iota about the people, they just want tax revenue and protect businesses.

Does Japan not see how other countries are going exactly the opposite route and deeming the drug not dangerous and having real medicinal properties. I don't think I would use it if it was legal, but if others want to, give them the choice and don't act like this thing is going to lead to the downfall of your society!

Hopefully this case will be a lesson for those who think that getting Covid 19 is just like getting the flu or a cold. You might have minor symptoms, but you may also have your lungs destroyed and require a transplant. Not all of us are so lucky to have willing and able donors. So wear your mask and be careful of the 3C's.

Also thanks to the EU for not restricting the export of BioNTech/Pfizer's vaccine (like e.g. US), although they also are in urgent need of it.
I would not be celebrating the EU so quickly, they are still stopping the export of vaccines to other countries, just ask Australia! This smacks of nationalism and I really wonder if some countries have the right to sue over breach of contract. Many countries ordered and pre-paid for the vaccines, only to be left in the lurch as politicians demanded they not be exported to other countries.

People, we all know that Suga is not calling the shots. He is the front man for Nikai, who is the real leader. And he, being Nikai only cares about the economy and not having to have to pay businesses and other places to remain closed. It is "their" money after all!

I think it more of the optics than anything else. The government tells people don't eat in large groups, and don't do it after a certain time, but they continue to flout the rules themselves. Then, how can you ask or force others to stay home.

I'd like to hear more about the theory about how it was transmitted through frozen food. We kept hearing that it was at the wet markets in Wuhan, so how would it get into frozen food products? And if that is the fact can we trust any food product coming from China?

This used to be the way it was in Japan before the consumption tax was raised from 3%, if I remember correctly. I liked that system, as there was no ambiguity over the price. But then when it went to 5%, and they knew it was going to keep rising, stores stopped adding the tax. There is one supermarket here that has deceptive pricing. They have in big green numbers the before tax price, and in smaller red numbers the actual price. My elderly mother-in-law often gets confused by these.

I agree he should gift it to the city, but I also think Kobe City is being pretty cheap here and not offering him any kind of compensation. I think he bought it thinking he could get a much bigger payday, either from the city, or the landowners. He gambled and now he will lose.

I bought my switches in yodabashi for the standard price on 2 separate occasions about 3 years ago
Yes, that was long before the Corona virus hit and many people were forced to stay at home. Also there is a chip shortage so the producers are not able to pump out as many consoles as they want causing a shortage and then the scalpers step in.

Lythegreat, you are incorrect, just up until recently the Switch was sold out all over the place, and the only place you could buy was either on Mercari or Yahoo auctions. I have heard they finally have resumed selling in traditional stores but that was only recently!

I wonder if Seb Coe is getting those nice brown envelopes full of cash from Dentsu, as they are like to do. If even some tourists are allowed, you know full well they will be the most healed and will be staying in the most expensive hotels and dining in the best restaurants. All things that will help the 1%!

Maybe Taro Aso was correct! These games are doomed to fail!
Japan’s deputy prime minister has said the Tokyo Olympics are “cursed”, as speculation mounts that the Games will have to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Taro Aso, who has a history of making gaffes, told a parliamentary committee on Wednesday that the Olympics appeared to be blighted by world events every 40 years.

Hey Lieutenant Dan, if US beef is chewy trash meat, then why is Japan importing so much? Also, why is the US punished because the Aussie's can't export enough beef due to draught?

The Uk press has been objectively racist in their coverage pre and post interview.
Please link to examples of this. I'm guessing you can't as it's completely untrue.
Here you go sparky!

What I would like to know is what was the purpose of the interview? If they were being held captive by the royal family and this was their only way to make a break, ok, I could understand it. But they were out! They had made their split and are in the US to start the new lives. So why now throw fire bombs at your family? Was it just to raise their profiles in the US? Was it for money? They had to know the blowback they would receive for this. Whomever is advising them made a glaring miscalculation.

Unless both the Greek and Swedish governments are ready to pay for all the hospitalizations and deaths caused by allowing foreign visitors in for the Japan, I would like them to just shove it!

This just goes to show that even the precautions they have taken, requiring a PCR test 72 hours before flying to Japan, and another PCR test when arriving is not precaution enough. They also need to have a stricter quarantine system when people return. Two full weeks in a hotel or some place, separated from the local community.

Just wait until the state of emergency is lifted and the vaccine is administered, the people will be flocking to Tokyo again. This is just a covid blip.

Is she going to do her Beyonce imitation for a US audience? Not sure how that will go over. I wish her luck, but as others have said, many of these performers make the move to the US, but end up making all of their money in Japan. But they are able to sell the dream of moving to the US and Japanese TV loves that story. How many times have we seen Laura(SP) the half Japanese model/talent living and painting in her Los Angeles house!

So if you shower twice a day and soap and clean that area wouldn't it have the same effect of removing the skin flora raising the PH level? As someone said above, if used too much or incorrectly anything can do damage. But I think this is far better than wiping and wiping using lots of tp and never really getting completely clean down there.

I think the real scandal here is that 60% of a civil servant's monthly salary is 705,000 yen, meaning she makes about 1,180,000 yen a month. Waste tax payers' money much?
And remember that is before her two bonuses as well!
