I think for once we can’t blame completely blame the government though, despite all the other messes they’ve made. It’s the IOC who could’ve cancelled this. From what I’ve heard, the host country doesn’t actually have the power to cancel after the contract they sign. Blame ‘Dick’ Pound. Dick by name, dick by….

You know what I’m saying.

Posted in: Japan should have scrapped domestic COVID vaccine trials: Kono See in context

From The Asahi Shinbun:

“Pfizer’s international tests were conducted from July to November on about 44,000 people in six countries, including about 2,000 Asians. Japan requested tests on 160 Japanese people,”

So why didn’t other Asian countries do this, why only Japan? Perhaps it’s because there’s this pernicious idea that the Japanese people are somehow unique and that this idea also extends to their very DNA. Remember when there was talk of the ‘Factor X’ and ‘high degree of culture’ last year? Not so different from other people after all it would seem. This kind of arrogance has cost lives.

So, if I go to England, I have to self isolate for about ten days, and on my return to Japan, spend six days in a government run isolation unit before spending ten days isolating in my own house. I assume that Suga will be setting an example by doing the same?

Ian, you said that the Asahi Shinbun called for it to be postponed not cancelled, but here’s their headline, “Prime Minister Suga, please call off the Olympics this summer”. Call off, not postpone.

‘By using a new weapon called vaccines and taking firm preventive measures, it is fully possible" to hold the Olympics safely.’

Vaccines are hardly a ‘new weapon’. He explains it as though he’s talking to a bunch of kids. If it’s ‘fully possibly’, then why have all the local festivals been cancelled?

This idiot is going to hospitalize thousands of people.

I had a class in this place where, as usual, everyone had to wear masks. As it was as private club and this is Japan however, people not taking part in the class we’re allowed to take off their masks and smoke! Unbelievable.

Seriously, if they pull this off and we can all get vaccinated fairly soon then someone needs a $£%#n medal for sorting this mess out. If it’s just business as usual and just another bit of PR then I’ll be the first to say €#%£ you to this inept government. Let’s see what happens.

Posted in: Japan plans to extend COVID-19 state of emergency beyond May 31 See in context

The thing that annoys me is that the delays in vaccinations are partly due to this idea that Japanese people are somehow unique, and that their DNA is completely different to other Asian people. It wasn’t enough that 2,000 out of the 44,000 people tested were Asian, it was also deemed necessary to conduct the same trials on 160 Japanese people thus delaying the rollout by months.

Japanese DNA is completely unique when compared to dirty foreign DNA. Because of this, only a vaccine produced by Japanese people for Japanese people will be effect. Studies show that, under a microscope, Japanese DNA takes its shoes off when entering a house and is really good at using chopsticks.
