Posted in: Doctors charged in euthanasia case suspected in another death See in context

Safeguards, there you go. If it was so clean and simple, why would you need safeguards? And who defines these safeguards, and can they be abused or not. Certainly if euthanasia is an easily available and promoted option, you yourself would feel a bit obliged to use it, would you not?

You are putting words in my mouth. Everything has safeguards..examples would be cars, elevators, trains.

Who defines them? The government of the country in conjunction with public input.

Would I feel obliged to use it? Obliged is a strange word to use for that, but no I would not feel "obliged". I would however like it as an option.

Euthanasia is a moral dilemma

I don't see it that way at all. I am thankful my native country allows assisted death (subject of course to some safeguards).

If you have a terminal disease, you don't want to suffer in agony waiting for death. We treat dogs and cats better than that.

the center of the room was covered in trampled feces about two centimeters in height. The remaining animals were kept on the second floor in cages that contained decomposing food and feces.

Imagine the smell of that place. Disgusting.

A very effective defense devise against a bear attack is a shotgun. It won’t kill the bear, but it’ll blind it and cause it agonizing pain. This is far safer than what the article recommends:

Not that many people walk around with shotguns. For hikers, get bear spray.

Saving up ¥20 million is a formidable task.

I don't think that's a formidable task at all..I mean you have many years to do that before you hit retirement age.

Just wonder what others think

The only reason cases are increasing is because more people getting tested.

Uh, no. Cases increase or decrease independently of how many tests are conducted. Unreported cases (ie not tested) are still cases.

Even the kings and aristocracy of other countries (Eg France in the revolution) figured out that they were not above the law.

Why did it take Australia to 2021 to figure this out?

Really now. So all the benefits pet dogs and cats give us should just be discarded because you don't like them?

That was three years ago. Yoshiyuki married. His mother remarried. Yoshiyuki is 34, his father 64

So the father was in his early 60s begging his son for money. Disgraceful.

I am in that age group(the father's) and there is not a snowballs chance that I would ever mooch off my children.

I own a house which I bought four years back and paid way less than I would have for something similar when I first arrived in Japan.

But is not the general case in Japan. A house depreciates over the years...they don't increase in value unlike most other countries.

Not sure your home country, but when I look at grocery prices in mine and I compare it to Japan, Japan is never cheaper (with one exception, liquor)

Posted in: The increase of 10,000-yen notes in circulation is a reflection of the growing sense of anxiety. See in context

Actually in Japan they do buy as much as they used to, inflation is basically non existent here. The consumer price index today is about the same as it was in the 1980s.

Today there is a consumption tax of 10%. Did not exist prior to 1989, and when it was introduced it was 3%.

And as for price inlation--they can say what they want in the stats, but a 10,000 yen to me does not buy as much as it used to...that includes travel, food, hotels.

So the volume of these notes are increasing? That's because as time goes by, the don't buy as much as they used to...it has nothing to do with anxiety.
