Where does it say in the article she is a corona patient??

Hospital bed occupancy is never 100.... Says who? Do you keep statistics from every hospital in Japan ? We are taking about private hospital bed occupancy.... Which can be at 100 percent ...it definitely was when I was in last October.

@zichi

Wrong. Hospitals have a limited amount of private rooms and due to corona there is a severe squeeze on the availability of private rooms ( I had an operation in October last year and it was very difficult to get a private room ). So she is depriving someone of a room if (as it is probably the case) she doesn't actually need it.

Mr kipling

You know nothing about boxing. Lewis, a fantastic jabber, only beat iron Mike after don king fired his mitts man, kevin rooney. Even when tyson beat bruno he was not an ounce of the fighter before king got his hands on him. Over rated? Probably the most iconic since ali or sugar ray robinson or jack dempsey. I think you know more about cheap cakes than boxing.

Seriously sad. Japan never went through a hard lock down like many countries and so most social activities were in no way curtailed. There are so many activities for people of all ages here. If you feel you need a robot to have communication , then you need professional help.

So where do people eat lunch? On the greens? Nope, in the clubhouse. Probably with very little effective anti viral measures in place. Pure spin from an obselete so called sport trying to sell itself a saviour.

Having avalanche gear means nothing if you don't know how to use it and more importantly, you don't have the skills to determine whether an area is safe or not. Also, it dumped on Wednesday , Thursday and Friday then the temperature rise very quickly at the weekend....near perfect avalanche conditions. Any sport has risks and you go out of bounds at your own risk.

Okinawans are vegan???? Wow, big news to me as I have Japanese in laws who live there and have lived there for generations and are hardly vegan. Also, vegan food is healthy???? Really??? King's college london recently published a paper on why vegan food may actually be worse than typical meat and fish based diets. Do a simple google search and you'll find a lot of evidence that suggests vegan food is no healthier than any other kind of food regime. More vegetables, fruits, less junk food ...yes...but vegan food as the magical cure for obesity? Dream on. Responsible calorific intake and appropriate calorific expenditure is what will get rid of diabetes. I am from England, disgusting levels of fatness everywhere.

How does japan make it so expensive to own old cars? My father in law has a 1961 mgA and it costs the same as his jaguar to run. The inspection is strict, same standards as a new car, but there is no extra tax for old cars. I own a vintage Ducati and the tax is the same for my panigalle

Extending an ineffective soe is just more blithering on the part of the government. I was in toys r us today. One middle aged guy ...no mask. I asked the store manager if masks were mandatory in store, he replied yes. I pointed out the offending customer and asked him what he was going to do.....he did nothing. My point is that a SOE is unnecessary if people would act in a responsible manner... According to Aso, japan's manners are the best in the world....if they were, an SOE would be unnecessary.

Rotten housing industry??? Bit of an exaggeration wouldn't you say?

You get what you pay for, anywhere in the world. Pay 120,000 yen and you'll get a big apartment in the suburbs of even tokyo ( I lived in a nice 2ldk in kichijoi for that ). Pay 60,000 yen and you'll get a crappy matchbox in any city in Japan. I am from England. Parents live in a 3 bedroom house with one toilet and bathroom. Totally the norm. That would be very difficult to quarantine someone in that situation too. Not a problem peculiar to Japan

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Posted in: In-home COVID-19 isolation contributing to Japan's virus spread See in context

@mark x

Not it isn't. Do you live in Japan? I do and have for 27 years. The country is 70 percent mountainous making land suitable for housing scarce. I come from England and the houses and apartments there are bigger but not that bigger. Ever been to Hong Kong, Singapore , Taiwan, macau? Smaller apartments than here. This isn't the american dream where people have six toilets, 6 bedrooms and a pool . I live in a 90 square meter apartment in Osaka which is pretty big for 3 people. You are totally wrong, the article is a criticism of the lack of hospital beds for the 30 000 people waiting for one. It has nothing to do with housing. Most apartments and houses here are adequate for the population density. Some people live in smaller places due to economic reasons.

Very very unsubstantiated post
