What is it with ageing Japanese politicians and sofas?

The uncomfortable sofas you find everywhere here are designed to make you uncomfortable and awkward, Suga almost has it right, propping himself near the edge where he can remain with an upright spine (but appear over eager and amatuer), but ruins his posture by resting on his elbows. the other two just don't give a damn.

''why would the taxi driver stop, legal or not, knowing there is nothing for the young man to do in the middle of the bridge?''

Take a picture, vommit, make a call...there are lots of things.

Leaping to ones death is not the first thing that would come to mind, I think it was reasonable for the driver to pull over when requested to do so.

Tragic story though.

At this point everyone in Government needs to stop flapping their gums about the stupid games and get on with rolling out vaccinations speedily and efficiently . That's it. That's the task at hand.

Yes.

E-sports, in particular Sim racing is what's important.

I've gone 'all in' and dropped a few thousand dollars.

It's my mid-life crisis, and I'm fine with that.

You pronounce that like it's a good thing.

The GOP party just revealed themsleves to be craven cowards that stand for nothing that America was supposed to stand for. 'Yay!' I guess.

*Trump in his speech:** '***'fight like hell, or you won’t have a country anymore.''**

Rep. Madeleine Dean observed: “And so they came, draped in Trump’s flag, and used our flag, the American flag, to batter and to bludgeon.”

There's nothing confusing or debatable about it. Trump incited an attempted insurrection. People were killed.

Well since preparations are under way for the athletes to 'fool around' there's definitely going to be some cross contamination taking place in 'quarantine'....so the arguments about which sports might be dangerous is kind of mute.

The IOC could probably make more money by subscription streaming the off field 'action' anyway??

Please don't tell me this is 'surprising' for the Economists in charge here.

Long term after effects of Covid have been widely reported internationally from at least 7 months ago.

I don’t want to keep saying this Government can’t get anything right.

However, rather than actually taking measures to stop the spread of the virus, they just dreamed up a way to collect revenue.

Hey Goodlucktoyou, sad to hear your business is bust. I was on the brink of opening a venture just as Covid hit, and we had to bail out of the plan.

It's proven that countries that lockdown, close borders and enforce curfew measures while testing and tracing for relatively short periods of time can control the spread and allow things to re-open. Japan almost did this with the first SOE, but bailed out just when things were working.

If the Government here had followed health advisors and not economists many of us would be in a better situation than we are now. Instead we get another round of 'Stay Home...but Go out until 8, and keep going to the office' half way BS that is prolonging the pain, not preventing it.

But I've said this so often I'm boring myself...Hahaha!

They'll probably replace this 'mistake' with a donation address for the Olympics.

Go ahead, Olympics get your damn TV revenue and recover what you can from kick backs, for those you’ve bribed, bought, and loaned from.

Yes, the idea itself is fine for a post Covid Japan.

But to do it in the midst of a Global pandemic: The timing was absolutely (if not criminally) idiotic; comical in its negligence.

@ ReasonandWisdomNippon.

''Are you perfect with all your decisions in the past year?''

To be perfectly honest; since you ask. Yes.

My company, the companies that oversee my company and the personal choices we have made allow me confidence in my answer.

I have been correct in my decisions for the past year to protect myself and my community at not insignificant personal cost. I do not want to catch Covid, nor spread it. I take it seriously as I have people I care about and people i work with who are at high risk.

I am disgusted by the actions of these LDP representatives, and appalled they live a grand life of privalige on our hard eraned taxes. They are not worthy of their station and can only hope the Japanese remember these transgressions (for once) and use their vote accordingly at the next election.

It is no shock for anyone keeping up with the news that Japan is not alone in it's...let's be honest...horrifying response to a Global Pandemic.

As a worldwide community we all need to take a hard look at ourselves.

Ya.

I think it’s fine if they:

1: do it with no spectators.

2: athletes fly in the day before their event. are kept quarantined, do their damn event and flown straight back home; no sightseeing, no public activities. no parades.

3: athletes don’t receive priority vaccination.

sounds reasonable.

Posted in: New coronavirus cases in Tokyo fall to 618; nationwide tally 2,764 See in context

Hi nakanoguy01.

''Can the govt only lie some of the times?''

This is just an opinion so...whatever.

Yes. Yes they (the Government) can, and it appears they have the will to do so.

The reason I say this is because the J Govt has history in this regard, do you remember 'No meltdowns' at Fukushima?

We can see a pattern of the Government increasing and decreasing testing to reveal numbers until they reach a threshold that makes the Public feel uncomfortable.

As soon as they reach that threshold (which they have been gradually increasing...remeber when 100 cases a day was cause for concern? then 500. Then a 1000) they cut back testing and the reported numbers fall...without any logical reason (when compared to basically any other country).

I hope there is a significant drop in cases and I have to eat my words here.

But I just don't see how Japan can defeat a disease with 'Meh...LOL' that is shutting down the rest of the world? It's not just Japan...the response of many countries has been incredibly poor.

What would make me happier is a more stringent and steady testing/tracing regime to reveal the truth, not obfuscate it.

I must agree, it certainly seems none of the Expert Economists put in charge have any sense of urgency nor the will to take action. It's very much a case here of 'let the chips fall where they may.'

''How long before the people demand answers ?''

Hahaha! It seems unlikely to happen a year down the road. People apparently want their kids in school and the spouse out of the house.

There is a lot of advice about how to deal with fever and illness on line. Please do a search and all I will say is tell your friend to stay very well hydrated and keep an eye on 'warning' signs, that is more important than loss of appetite.

@rcch

I think America needs to fight hate with Justice in this instance.

Then once Trump, Cruz, Graham and all the other insurrectionists have been held accountable, you can bring on the love.

You can already see that there won't be a civil war, the Qanon followers are left dumbfounded the wind was blown out of their STORM.

Carrying out trials and punishing those found through evidence to be guilty of incitement sends a better message for America to the world than 'Oh well, a few white people got a little excited.'
