Nearly half the article is a plug for a swimmer. Just goes to show how hard up the government is here in drumming up support!

There is a serious misleading mistake in this article in the second paragraph. The Japanese government should be more honest.

*The government is planning to secure enough shots of the vaccine*

It should read...

The government is hoping to secure enough shots of the vaccine

Na, it should be "Japan is URGING companies to please, pretty please, send us some"

the US vaccinated 4.6 million people YESTERDAY.

Why do people INSIST on making comparisons to the US for everything here? The US is far from the center of the universe, and it's truly annoying as hell!

They started with medical workers in February! I mean really now, its the middle of April and they havent finished yet.

With nearly 1/3 of the population being "elderly", it's going to take literally months, if not until the end of the year, before they get theirs!

This is a crying shame!

While it’s unclear whether Okada was asked to provide his ID and a reason for purchasing gasoline by staff at the gas station, this new incident shows that the government may need to tighten these laws to prevent more copycat attacks from occurring.

Double face palm! I mean really, just providing ID is NOT going to stop a copycat! Once again the collective mentality that people are not smart enough to create or procure a fake ID. Or that the person even cares if they get caught or not.

Idiotic

Well, the government should expect this, they keep on harping about shutting things down at night, so it goes to reason that the population has started believing the virus only comes out after 8PM

I echo the comments above.

[Still no testing at my place of work...]

Just how many "places of work" offer PCR tests?

How about getting the quasi-ministry of health to approve at least 2 more vaccines. Seriously, what are they waiting for? How many months has it been since Moderna and AstraZeneca applied??

The real answer, neither have paid enough in bribe money. The "official" reason, still testing!

Right and Okinawa is still either No 1 or No 2 (today) in per 100,000 , yesterday over 150, today, over 140.

The prefecture now has over 10,000 confirmed cases, and a death rate of around 1.3%

It's like I woke up in irrationalville.

Must be a newbie to Japan What you are seeing is literally par for the course.

The government is constantly sending out mixed messages! "stay home" "no drinking after 8PM" "no unnecessary travel" etc. etc. etc. Out of one side of their arse.

Then from the other side, "The Olympics will go on!" "Everything is safe!" "Foreign athletes can come with out a PCR test" "Look the torch relay is going on" And THIS is the side that the mainstream media pushes out as the mouth piece of the propaganda ministry!

This is the "way" of Japan! Welcome to the "way!"

This inability of the government to convince the people to take precautions seriously really leaves a black scar on the "image" that Japanese people are "special" when it comes to cooperation and doing the right thing!

As I have said for years now, the people of Japan are no better, or worse, than people in other countries, and as hard as the government pushes the image otherwise, this "wave" just goes to show that folks here are sick and tired of the BS and want to get on with their lives....even if it means getting sick, or possibly worse!

And once again, Okinawa gets kicked to the curb, even though it's infections "per-100,000" is higher than anywhere in Japan, besides Miyagi!

This is the 3rd time that Suga and his government refuses to acknowledge that we have a serious problem down here, and he isnt doing crap to help. Just like his predecessor!

In Japan, women are not allowed to enter places such as a sumo ring, or dohyo, as they are regarded as being sacred.

Personally speaking here, I think women are more "sacred" !

Oh, and "places" is plural, so besides the sumo ring/dohyo where are women NOT allowed to enter?

Please elaborate!

These numbers are very low considering the size of the Japanese population

Once again, another person who mistakenly thinks that "Tokyo" is Japan!

直近1週間の人口10万人当たりの新規感染者は39・14人で全国平均11・15人の約3倍に上る。全国では2番目の多さ。最多は宮城県42・66人、3番目は大阪府28・57人だった。

Once again the "rest" of the country gets brushed aside!

On Tuesday, health minister Norihisa Tamura apologized for a late-night party involving 23 ministry officials held at a restaurant in Tokyo's glitzy Ginza district last week despite the metropolitan government's request for shorter business hours to curb the pandemic.

Right... THIS is what the problem is, but nicely hidden away at the end!

Right, I eat my "bento" in an office with around 30 other people, every single day, and no one writes about it in the newspapers!

This is pushing the meaning of the word "dine" to quite the extreme!

Right, Tokyo, once again and continue to kick everyone else out of the country as being insignificant!

Miyagi (41・39), Okinawa, (35・37)and Osaka (21・92) have higher rates of infection per 100,000 people than Tokyo!

But does it matter?

Seems like this is happening all over the world, and for here, I have been saying since damn near the beginning of the pandemic lockdowns, that using the stock market to judge the "health" of the Japanese consumer is BS.

If the economy was doing so well, there would be no need for people to be searching for help and assistance!

That 100,000 yen, for far too many is LONG gone, and the government has no plans, nor will, to do anything else, but, continue to dump money into the hands of those who already have more than enough.

Oh, that, and the Olympics!

Not so fast, buddy; Osaka has reclaimed its bragging rights to No. 2.

Keep trying! We have a smaller population so it's easier for us to be in the lead! Hell a few months ago we were Number 1...... but Suga refused to include Okinawa in the "Emergency Declaration" even after the Gov here declared one on his own!

(Stay safe! Osaka is one of my "Most favorite places to be" in Japan! And I really would love to return, as soon as all this COVID calms down!)

Suga doesnt want to spend money on Okinawa!

全国2番目

直近1週間(20~26日)の人口10万人当たりの新規感染者数は28・52人で全国2番目。最多は宮城県(38・60人)、3番目は山形県(18・50人)で、両県は独自の緊急事態宣言を出している。

Posted in: Tokyo Disney parks abandon 'ladies and gentlemen' announcements See in context

Look vocabulary changes over time. Not too long ago, a simple word, "bad" had basically one meaning, now depending upon it's use, it can mean the direct opposite of what it "originally" or typically meant.

Want to get more PC here? Take a look at the original meaning of the word "fag", or "faggot", use it today, and people will call you out on it, not matter how you use it.

There are plenty of other examples, and people just need to get used to it!

Even here in Japan the word "gaijin" at one time, was used by Japanese to describe someone not from within their own, like "bu-gaijin", now even the word "gaijin" is seen as being a derogatory word.

I wonder how many here complain about the word "gaijin" and think "ladies and gentlemen" is still appropriate?

Really it's no big deal, time change, as well as language too!
