I write this separately to the author here; quit discriminating against Okinawa! Just because YOU dont know, doesnt mean WE dont have it!

You SHOULD be ashamed! But you wont will you?

Every year the same thing, once again, kicking Okinawa out of Japan!

In Okinawa the trees blossom north to south, unlike mainland, which is the opposite. The blossoms have started and are very beautiful!

Caught off guard my butt! The lack of testing was by conscience decisions being made to keep overall numbers of positive tests down! (Olympics....)

It continued as policy! No testing-no virus!

Third Wave? My butt! Japan has been in a perpetual "wave" as there has been no return to "zero" since the start. This media BS about "waves" here is nauseating!

I guess you missed the part of the article where it said the encounter took place when she was 17.

Guess you didnt read the age of consent information, in Kanagawa it's 16. So....try again!

The national age of consent in Japan is 13!

Posted in: Man arrested for soliciting prostitution from high school girl See in context

The laws in each prefecture are different, even if the national age of consent is 16, the law in each prefecture takes precedence!

The age of consent in the prefectures ranges from 16 to 18 years, and it is illegal to engage in sexual activities with partners who are below this age unless a parent approves of the romantic relationship. In Tokyo, for example, a person has to be at least 18 years to agree to have any form of sexual relations.

This article title is classic "click bait"

Man arrested for soliciting prostitution from high school girl

Soliciting and actually having sex, are two different things altogether! And he was arrested on suspicion because of the videos the cops found, and NOT because of any complaint by the young woman in question.

This title is 100% wrong, as he has NOT been arrested for solicitation, he is being detained for suspicion of a crime, "lewd acts for money" and not on a minor either, as she is past the age of consent!

Having sex with an underage girl is a BIG...No...No...It's a stupid thing to do.

Age of consent, .... Passed, so she isnt "underage". Educate yourself to the laws here before you talk, makes you look, well, ignorant!

They too young to know what the h-ll they’re doing and the consequences and real meaning of their actions. This is exactly why these creeps try to abuse them. Instead of protecting and educating them, they’re abusing them.

Right, an 18 year old girl, old enough to vote, and choose her leaders, but not old enough to know better about accepting money for sex.

Get your head outta the ground PLEASE!

Why? Because he can supposedly speak English? If that's the only requirement, I know plenty of HS kids that would probably be better at it than him!

And why didnt you open your mouth and say something while you were foreign minister? You are supposed to be smart enough to have seen all the BS happening with Trump when you held your old job, and all the BS after the elections, you could have stepped up and said something.

But no, just like everyone else, you never said anything about the cesspool of crap that was coming out of Washington!

In Japan,I do not know of anyone having died with the virus.

Unless death rates are compared with previous years then the lockdowns and orders make little sense.

My guess, and I have a partner working on a hospital ward, is that fatalities are not all that different from any other year.

You make it sound like just because YOU dont know anyone, it doesnt happen? There is no "previous" year for COVID either, and your assumption about your partner working in a hospital makes no sense either, as not all hospitals have been taking in COVID patients as well.

These figures are for the time before Corona virus. They are from 2019 to March last year so we cannot blame the situation ob working from home.

Please reread the article! Fiscal 2020 ends in March of 2021. So yes you very well can blame the situation with problems associated with the virus!

The total number of cases stood at 132,355 in the period from April to November, four months before the fiscal year ends on March 31, surpassing the fiscal 2019 level by 13,000.

Posted in: Gov't to expand state of emergency to cover Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo See in context

The State of Emergency is a joke. I’m on the Mita line right now and it’s crowded. I stopped wearing a mask because it’s so uncomfortable and apparently doesn’t do anything to protect against covid. If the government wants to curb the pandemic then legally make all office workers work from home. Period.

Give it time! Soon you will be one of the walking infected, and if you are really lucky, maybe find a bed in a hospital somewhere, and if the gods are smiling on you, a ventilator is available to keep you alive, all on your own, because no one will be allowed to see you.

Then come back here and tell us all how it went, if you manage to live that is! Believe me, if I saw you on a train, with no mask, I would tell you about it, and make sure everyone around you, looks at you with disgust for your "gaijin" ignorance and arrogance!

Pretty disgusting to me. We hear about the "mutating" virus, and chances are that these animals who are eating these disposed of masks, could ingest the virus as well and cause it to mutate even more.

This "state of emergency" is meaningless! Take a look at all the municipalities that held their "Coming of Age" ceremonies this past weekend. Just goes to show that the government only thinks that nightlife activities are to blame for the spread of the virus!

Last year, everyone was patting themeselves on the back (government types that is) for the low numbers being reported, as "proof" that the Japanese were better than other countries at controlling the spread.

As I have said, in all my years here, Japanese are no different, and no better than people throughout the world, the media and government just likes to keep saying they are!

If Japan had started to do mass vaccinations already like many other countries

MAJOR misconception, out of all the countries in the world, there are still VERY few that are vaccinating for the virus.

I am personally tired of the overexaggerated writing in these articles here. Pray tell just who in the world has no idea that we are still in the middle of a world-wide pandemic? Pray tell just who doesnt know that, for the overwhelming majority of the countries in the world, there are travel restrictions in place? Just who in the heck doesnt know you cant go anywhere, even if you wanted to?

You want to report the statistics, fine, but do it like you do reporting the new corona cases every day.

Just give the numbers, and quite with the hyperbole !

Singapore requires it as it is one of the countries on the "green line" list. You have to get the PCR test withing 72 hours of departure, then go into quarantine in a dedicated facility, and on the 11th day of quarantine get another test, before being allowed into the country.

It's all at one's own expense, the quarantine with PCR test, is $2,000 (SD)
